Menstrual pain relief may soon be revolutionized thanks to a new wearable device developed by Montreal-based femtech startup Juno Technologies. The company is tackling a widespread but often overlooked issue: menstrual cramps that affect 8 out of 10 women.
These recurring period pains, caused by uterine contractions during menstruation, don’t just cause discomfort—they also have a tangible impact on daily life.
“80% of women feel pain during this phenomenon,” explains Nanette Sene, CEO and co-founder of Juno Technologies, in an interview with InfoBref.
A Hidden Cause of Lost Productivity
Menstrual pain is one of the leading causes of absenteeism among women. Each month, between 5% and 10% of women miss school or work due to the severity of their cramps.
While traditional methods like heat application and anti-inflammatory medication offer some relief, they are often inconvenient or ineffective for many.
“These methods aren’t always practical or effective,” notes Sene.
A Wearable Solution for Period Pain Relief
Juno Technologies has developed a non-invasive, wearable device for menstrual pain relief, offering a drug-free alternative to traditional treatments. This period pain relief device aims to improve quality of life, restore daily productivity, and offer a discreet, comfortable solution for women who suffer from menstrual cramps.
The company is currently pursuing regulatory approvals from both Health Canada and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to bring their femtech innovation to market.
