Juno Technologies Wins $200,000 In Prizes From Startupfest

Three years ago, Juno Technologies’ CEO, Nanette Sene, told Philippe Telio that one day, when she is ready, she would return to pitch her business at Startupfest and win. She meant every word!

Last Friday, Juno Technologies had the honour of receiving 3 prizes at Startupfest:

Juno first received $100,000 from the Black Entrepreneur pitch. Then BDC, in their continuous effort to support black entrepreneurs, matched the BEP prize! The medtech startup then won the audience favourite prize.

2024 marks the 3rd year of the inception of the black entrepreneur’s pitch. Rep matters and the founder of Startupfest, Philippe Telio, came together to create a much-needed space for black entrepreneurs. The event not only supports black entrepreneurs but also recognize the disparities in opportunity. In front of a panel of Black angel investors, 10 finalist startups from all over Canada pitch their business for a chance to win $100 000.

Undeterred by tech being a predominantly male space, Juno’s founders, two women, pitched a menstrual pain relief device. Despite the modernity of our times, menstruation is still a taboo for many. It is a topic that many women will never broach in a professional space. Yet, regardless of this taboo, Juno got a room full of experts and men to vote for a product they themselves might never use. The value of what this medtech startup is bringing to the table is undeniable.

About Juno Technologies: Juno Technologies is a medtech startup founded by two women, focusing on women’s health. They are developing a revolutionary device to relieve menstrual pain without medication. In May 2024 alone, they have won a $25,000 prize at the Black Pitch Contest during the Black Business Summit, $10 000 from Foundation J. Armand Bombardier and $10,000 from the Effervescence Pitch.
