Can you pee with a tampon on ?

One of the most common questions the opposite sex tend to have difficulty answering is can you pee with a tampon in? The short answer is yes. You can absolutely urinate while wearing a tampon, and doing so won’t interfere with how the tampon works.

This myth often comes from a misunderstanding of basic anatomy. The urethra (where urine comes out) and the vagina (where a tampon is placed) are two separate openings. Using a tampon doesn’t block urine, and peeing won’t cause the tampon to “fall out” or move out of place.

That said, many people choose to change their tampon after using the bathroom. Why? Mainly for comfort and hygiene. The tampon’s string can get wet while you pee, which may feel uncomfortable or less clean. A simple trick is to gently hold the string to the side while urinating to keep it dry. If it does get wet, swapping in a fresh tampon is often the most comfortable option.

Questions like this highlight why conversations around menstrual health are still so necessary. Many of us were never taught these basics, and this leads to misunderstandings. Through Juno Talk, we aim to normalize these questions and make reliable information accessible with no shame, or judgment.
